Founded on November 9, 1874, at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, Sigma Kappa is a national women’s sorority committed to fostering lifelong connections in sisterhood while honoring its origins as an intellectual and social organization. With over 226,000 initiated members across 119 collegiate chapters and more than 98 alumnae chapters nationwide, Sigma Kappa offers a supportive community dedicated to personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty. Our mission is to inspire all members to lead lives of purpose through mutual support and respect.
The Kappa Lambda chapter of Sigma Kappa was established at the University of North Georgia (UNG) on April 17, 2004. Aligned with Sigma Kappa’s national philanthropic initiatives, the chapter supports the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Seacoast Mission, and the Alzheimer’s Association. Through active participation in campus events, community service, and leadership development, Kappa Lambda members cultivate a supportive sisterhood that fosters personal growth and academic success, making a positive impact within the UNG community and beyond.
